When Star Wars fans become parents, it is often expected that they will name their child after their favorite Star Wars character. Usually the kids are named after heroes like Luke or Leia or Anakin, and not the villains (I have yet to ever meet anyone named "Maul"), but that seems to be changing. The Social Security Administration released the statistics for the most popular baby names in 2016 in the US, and the name "Kylo" made the top 1000 baby names of 2016, finishing as the 901st most popular name for boys.
This seems to be a result of the popularity of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and its primary villain Kylo Ren, played by Adam Diver. However, does it not seem weird to anyone else that someone would want to name their child after a character who murders their own father in cold blood?
Other Star Wars names in the top 1000 include Leia at #321 for girls, Luke at #29 for boys, Anakin at #778 for boys, Finn at #175 for boys, and Bodhi at #375 for boys. Strangely, names like Sheev, Snoke, and Armitage failed to make to crack the top 1000.
