Oscar Isaac Describes a Scene He Shot With Carrie Fisher for 'The Last Jedi'

Much of last weekend's Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, Florida was dedicated to discussing the memory of the late Carrie Fisher, who passed away in December.  Fisher is best known for her role as Princess/General Leia in the Star Wars films and will be seen one more time in the role that made her famous this December in Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi.  One person who was not at Celebration, but worked with Fisher on The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi is Oscar Isaac and he recently spoke about working with Fisher on the upcoming sequel and recalled a particular scene the two shot together.

The Poe Dameron actor spoke with Business Insider while promoting his new film The Promise, which opens in theaters tomorrow, and described the scene he shot with Fisher, saying,

“It was basically my first day [on set] and we did about 25 takes total. Half of them were on me and half of them were on her. I can’t give anything away but there was a scene where there was some physicality there and it was shot just over and over and over. She relished the physicality of it, let me just say. It was pretty intense. It will be funny to see what they cut together based on that.”

It sounds like Fisher's final appearance as Leia will be a memorable one.

You can watch the tribute to Fisher from Celebration below,

The Last Jedi will be Fisher's final Star Wars film.  Fortunately Fisher finished filming all her scenes for the film prior to her passing (and can be seen briefly in the first trailer for the new film).  Disney CEO Bob Iger also confirmed that they would not be changing The Last Jedi because of Fisher's death.  Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed recently that they had begun re-writting Episode IX in January to reflect her passing.  Lucasfilm also confirmed back in January that they would not be using CGI to recreate Leia, as they did in Rogue One, in the sequel trilogy's conclusion.

Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15th.  The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and stars Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Carrie Fisher, and Kelly Marie Tran.
