By Ciaran Duggan,

The principal shooting of the Endor sequences for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi commenced in Crescent City, California 35 years ago today.

Del Norte county California provided the land of Endor backdrop where rebels and Ewoks fought against the tyrannical Galactic Empire in Episode VI.

In a commentary of the final film of the Original Trilogy franchise creator George Lucas said he wanted to used natural resources like stone and wood to take down the technological juggernaut that was the evil Galactic Empire.

The 72-year-old described the landscape as "a jungly kind of place, the color of life, a cradle of life environment."

Interestingly actors show the chase sequences in the woods in front of a green screen, along with the battle scenes and the blowing up of the shield generator.

Would you say Endor was your favorite Star Wars planet conceived by the Star Wars creator? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
