The connections between Star Wars films and the Star Wars animated series is something that Rogue One has pushed forward. The character of Saw Gerrera first appeared on Star Wars: The Clone Wars in 2012 and was played by Forest Whitaker in Rogue One. Whitaker then reprised the role on Star Wars Rebels last week. But connections between the animated series and the sequel trilogy are a little harder to pull off because of there is so much time between the series and the films. But that doesn't seem to be stopping Episode VIII, though. A new report from MakingStarWars.net points to a small, but potentially meaningful, connection between The Clone Wars, Rebels, and Episode VIII. As usual, there is is a chance this may not be true but if you are trying to avoid all Episode VIII spoiler then stop reading now. This is your SPOILER ALERT!

According to Jason Ward at MakingStarWar.net,
"It appears highly likely we will be seeing convorees in Star Wars: Episode VIII. The
sources that got back to me so far have said that’s the gist of the
design, however, “leave some room open for the animated shows’
interpretation.” Without having seen the designs myself at this point, I
think that’s about as good as I can do to confirm we will see convoree
in Star Wars: Episode VIII."
Convorees are the colourful, owl-like creatures that first appeared in the episode "Padawan Lost" of The Clone Wars. They reappeared on Star Wars Rebels in the episodes "The Mystery of Chopper Base", "Twilight of the Apprentice", and "Steps Into Shadow". It has been suggested that there is some significance to the convorees in what happened to Ahsoka following her confrontation with Darth Vader in the Sith temple on Malachor.
This raises the question of what significance they might have in the sequel trilogy. They could only make a minor, easter egg appearance. But, given their significance on Rebels, it would make sense for their appearance to mean something. Ward points to this quote from Star Wars Rebels executive producer and The Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni (who did visit the set of Episode VIII, for what that's worth), discussing the convorees,
"In some ways, I could say that it’s a messenger, it’s an observer. It is definitely something. And I would suggest – I would rather have fans debate – but I would suggest to say that whatever that thing is an avatar of has actually appeared in the animated Star Wars universe before."

The Convorees are also said to be "The Protectors of Ach-To", from a previous rumor. The other rumor, also from Making Star Wars, stated that,
"The featured creatures of Ahch-To have befriended Luke Skywalker during his residency as a Jedi recluse....Luke Skywalker has permission to be there while Rey does not. Rey has a
sequence on Ahch-To where she fights a rather large sea monster (we have
also heard she wears a black cloak during this sequence over the
costume we described before).
It has been suggested but not confirmed that Rey’s besting of the sea
monster grants her permission to be at the sacred location by the
“puffins.”
Having Convorees on Ach-To make a lot of sense, given their connection to the Force (which Filoni alluded to). Ward speculates that perhaps Filoni is being literal in his description of the Convorees as messengers. Perhaps the Convorees have observed many key events in the galaxy and Luke Skywalker is able to tap into those memories through the Force. This, as Ward speculates, could be a way for Rey to view certain events from the past (including gaining more insight into the "Force Back" scene from The Force Awakens).
As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed of denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.
