Marvel announced today that fan favorite Sith lord Darth Maul will be getting his own five issue mini series beginning in February.  The comic book series will be set prior to the events of The Phantom Menace and will be written by Cullen Buun (Uncanny X-Men) with art by Luke Ross.  The announcement was made by USA Today, who described the plot of the series as follows,

The comic finds Maul an untested warrior under the training of Darth Sidious, who would later become the Galactic Emperor. Told to stand down from engaging with Jedi yet, Maul hunts down the worst of the worst in the cosmic underworld to vent his frustration.

After learning a young Jedi Padawan named Eldra Kaitis has fallen into the hands of a crime lord, Maul seizes an opportunity to test his skills against a real Jedi but also maybe turn someone else to the dark side.

Buun told USA Today that he's drawing from both the Phantom Menace depiction of Maul and the Clone Wars depiction of Maul, merging the two to create Maul's personality in the series.  The series will also explore the relationship between Maul and his master Darth Sidious.
