The excitement for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is through the room right now as we anticipate the next trailer for the film, which is expected to be revealed this Thursday. To celebrate the occasion Entertainment Weekly's Anthony Breznican has been releasing new info about the locations and characters of Rogue One. Yesterday we were treated to some reveals about the planet Jedha, and today we get to learn about one of the world's inhabitants, Bodhi Rook.
At Star Wars Celebration Europe a few weeks back it was revealed that Bodhi is an Imperial pilot who experiences something that makes him reconsider his allegiances and ultimately joins the rebellion. Breznican spoke with Riz Ahmed, who plays Bodhi, and further delved into the character.
First off, it's revealed that Bohdi is a cargo pilot for the Empire on Jedha, which is the equivalent of a long distance truck driver in our world. Because of this, Bodhi may not be used to seeing much action, as Ahmed explains:
“A character like Bodhi is not born into the life of a soldier. He’s a pilot working for the Empire, doing his job, getting on with it. But when you put ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances, it can freak them out. It can inspire deep passions. "
Ahmed further discusses why Rook wears an Imperial patch on his shoulder even after he has committed to fighting the evil galactic overlords:
“I think it’s to remind you of where you’re coming from, remind you where your debts are. Do you know what I mean? For me personally, every day, looking at that, it reminds you of what you’ve done.”
Be sure to visit Entertainment Weekly to read the full interview, which also features words from Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
