A few weeks ago word got out that casting for the role of young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Young Han Solo A Star Wars Story film had begun. It was then reported that Donald Glover (Community, The Martian) was the filmmakers first choice for the role, which was originally played by Billy Dee Williams in the Original Trilogy. Time magazine recently interviewed Glover about his upcoming role in Spiderman: Homecoming and, of course, the topic of the Lando rumors came up. Glover avoided answering the question directly, but he did speak about growing up with the films
Okay, stop me if there’s anything you can confirm. There have been rumors that you will be in the Han Solo spinoff.
Yep. There are rumors.
How do you feel about the Star Wars franchise?
I mean, I grew up on it. My dad was a big fan. I had all the toys when I was little. I had a Darth Vader with the lightsaber he has. It was cool. It’s a dynasty. It’s like the bible. I love that franchise.
It sounds like there may have been some conversations with Glover already about, seeing as he wouldn't deny the rumors. However, Glover's upcoming FX series Atlanta may be a roadblock to him taking the part. The film is slated to hit theatres on May 25th, 2018 and stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo. It is directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street).
