Kathleen Kennedy Says 'Star Wars Story' Films Likely Won't Have a Crawl

A debate among Star Wars fans of late has been whether the A Star Wars Story films (formerly known at the Anthology films) should have a classic Star Wars opening crawl.  Apparently, this is a debate that has been going on at Lucasfilm as well.  A few weeks ago Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy added fuel to the fire when she confirmed this debate was happening within company walls, specifically as it relates to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which hits theatres this December.  This weekend, during Star Wars Celebration Europe in London, she was a bit more definitive in her answer.

Kennedy and director Gareth Edwards were interviewed by ET Online at the convention, check out the video below,

Kennedy said that,
“You know, we’re in the midst of talking about it, but I don’t think these films will have an opening crawl. I think that’s what we kind of telegraphed at the beginning of the event today.”

Edwards joked that since Rogue One is based on the A New Hope crawl, "if we have a crawl, it might create another movie!"

If you are still holding out hope for a crawl, while it seems unlikely at this point, there is still a chance this could change between now and December.  As Edwards said, you'll have to wait and see?
