Report: Rogue One Reshoots Will Not Be Supervised by Film Writer Christopher McQuarrie

By Ciaran Duggan,

Over the last few days, a number of mainstream outlets have reported the fact that Disney executives are displeased with the 'dark' tone of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. These outlets have stated that re-shoots would take place and Rogue One writer, Christopher McQuarrie, would supervise the re-shoots made by the film's director, Gareth Edwards.

Earlier today, Slashfilm reported that this 'rumour' was in fact false, as they got in touch with McQuarrie himself. McQuarrie refuted the rumours which have been circulating online:

"If there are any reshoots on Rogue One, I'm not supervising them. For any outlet to say so is not only wrong, it's irresponsible. Gareth Edwards is a talented filmmaker who deserves the benefit of the doubt. Making a film - let alone a Star Wars chapter - is hard enough without the internet trying to deliberately downgrade on's years of hard work. Who does that even serve? Let him make his movie in peace."

McQuarrie's comments serve as a reminder to us that we do not know the full story surrounding the Rogue One re-shoots. Of course there is no smoke without fire, but how many media outlets have directly contacted people like McQuarrie and Gareth Edwards and get statement from them? In addition no official statement has been made by Lucasfilm or Disney about the re-shoots, which means a lot of ambiguity still surrounds this story. Consequently, reporters and fans should be weary of blowing this story out of proportion.

Rogue One is set to hit theatres on December 16, 2016.
