New Details About the Old Live Action 'Star Wars' Series Revealed by 'God of War' Director

Remember back from 2005 to 2012 when every couple of months there would be a new story about the Star Wars Live Action Series, with the working title "Star Wars: Underworld", that George Lucas was developing.  Though over two seasons worth of scripts were written, the series never made.  The series was also suppose to have close ties to the Star Wars 1313 video game that was set in the same time period and was cancelled following the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney.  Because of the close connection between the game and the series, the people working on the game were given a look at what was in store on the series.

One of the people who worked on 1313 and got to see those scripts was Cory Barlog.  Barlog, who is now the Creative Director on the video game Gods of War, spoke with Venture Beat about his time working on the series and revealed some details about the series.

Barlog said,
“It was the most mind-blowing thing I’d ever experienced. I cared about the Emperor. They made the Emperor a sympathetic figure who was wronged by this f***ing heartless woman. She’s this hardcore gangster, and she just totally destroyed him as a person. I almost cried while reading this. This is the Emperor, the lightning out of the fingers Emperor. That’s something magical. The writers who worked on that, guys from The Shield and 24, these were excellent writers.”

That's very interesting that series was considering exploring Palpatine in that way.  We know from another writer, Stephen Scaia, that the series would have featured moments like Lando losing the Millennium Falcon to Han, the meeting of Han and Chewie, and action scenes featuring Boba Fett.

While there are no current plans for live action Star Wars on TV, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy stated back in during the promotion for The Force Awakens that they were still looking at developing the scripts Lucas produced.  Back in 2013 Lucasfilm Story group Member revealed that elements from the series had been seeded in Star Wars: The Clone Wars going all the way back to Season Two.  It will be very interesting to see what elements make it into the series, should it ever be made.
