A lot of rumors and speculation have been swirling over the past several months regarding the casting process for the young Han Solo Anthology film, which is due for release in 2018. A few weeks back rumors surfaced regarding a shortlist of actors under consideration for the role, which included Alden Ehrenreich, Jack Reynor, and Taron Egerton. Now it appears that Lucasfilm has finally selected the actor who will play a younger version of the character that was originated by Harrison Ford.
Page Six is reporting that Alden Ehrenreich has taken the role. While we have no official confirmation from Lucasfilm or Disney at this time, multiple sources, including Deadline and Variety, are corroborating this news. Page Six reports:
"One insider told us of Ehrenreich, 26, who most recently appeared in “Hail, Caesar!”: “Alden really impressed Disney and Lucasfilm execs with his screen tests. The deal is basically done.”"
They also add that the film itself has been given the code "Project Red Cup", and obvious nod to Red Solo Cups.
While we look forward to an official announcement regarding Mr. Ehrenreich's casting, I believe the trustworthy sources above speak for themselves. Without further ado, we certainly want to congratulate Alden Ehrenreich on nabbing the role and wish him the best of luck! We will finally get to see his take on the lovable scoundrel when the yet-to-be-titled Young Han Solo Anthology hits theaters on May 25th, 2018!
