There's been some talk recently about filming techniques as Colin Trevorrow, director of Star Wars: Episode IX, confirmed that he would be filming the movie on traditional film and not digitally, just as J.J. Abrams did with The Force Awakens. But while Trevorrow doesn't begin production on his film for a couple of years, Star Wars: Episode VIII is on the verge of beginning production right now. The director of that film, Rian Johnson, also just confirmed that he will be using film too. Mark T. on Twitter asked Johnson about the recent news and if he too will be following suit, to which he gave a short and direct reply:
@tet421 yup— Rian Johnson (@rianjohnson) February 1, 2016
It's also worth noting that Johnson had a humorous response to a recent tweet by C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels:
— Rian Johnson (@rianjohnson) January 31, 2016
While the films of the Sequel Trilogy will undoubtedly be very different being headed by different directors and crew, they will definitely carry some visual consistency by being all produced on film.
Star Wars: Episode VIII opens in theaters on December 15th, 2017!
