One question surrounding Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens is which characters will survive to fight another day in 2017's Star Wars: Episode VIII and which character will meet their demise during the film.  So far, Lucasfilm has been coy about which characters are set to go on past The Force Awakens, with main members of the cast refusing to say if they would be back during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.  But Lucasfilm president and producer of all the Star Wars movies currently in production Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that at least one character from The Force Awakens will definitely be making a return in Episode VIII.  If you don't want to know who, stop reading now.  This is your SPOILER ALERT!

Kathleen Kennedy confirmed in an interview with The LA Times that Captain Phasma, the stormtrooper captain in chrome armor played by Gwendoline Christie, will be returning in Episode VIII.  According to the LA Times,
"But you won't see Phasma tapping out after being carelessly knocked into a sarlacc pit like a wobbly toddler. Kennedy has big plans for Phasma and confirmed that the captain will carry on into the next movie. 'She's an important character, a baddie in the best sense of the word.'"

So there you have it, Captain Phasma will be back to hunt our heroes in 2017.  The question remains, which characters will be joining her in the next film?  We'll get some answers in less than two weeks!

The rest of the article over at The LA Times focuses on the female characters of The Force Awakens with interviews with Kennedy, Christie, Daisy Ridley, and Carrie Fisher.  It's a great read and we highly recommend checking it out!
