Rumor: Filming for Episode VIII to Take Place at Skellig Michael

Back in late July 2014, the Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens production created a spectacle in a small Irish town, as they were using it as a launching point for filming of a pivotal scene in the new film on a small island known as Skellig Michael.  Well, it seems the Star Wars production will be making a return to Skellig Michale in the not too distant future for the Rian Johnson directed Star Wars Episode VIII.  Our friends over at MakingStarWars.net have heard that the script definitely requires a return to this location and is slated to do so in October.

If you've been following the rumors/spoilers you can probably guess why they would be returning to this location.  We'll discuss those reasons and some minor specifics about the scene below.  As usual there is a chance this may turn out not to be true, but if you are trying to avoid all The Force Awakens spoilers then stop reading now.  This is your SPOILER ALERT!

We know from pictures taken at the The Force Awakens shoot that Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley were on set.  The reason for this is that they were shooting the last scene in the movie, where Rey (Ridley) brings the lightsaber that once belonged to Anakin and Luke Skywalker up the steps of an old monastery and places it in the hand of Luke Skywalker.  And then the movie ends, with this being Luke's only scene in the film (with the exception of a flashback or two).

This scene suggests, to me at least, that when Episode VIII opens Luke will be training Rey and it's conceivable that they would have spend most of their time training in this locationAccording to Making Star Wars, this is how Episode VIII will open and that the production is hoping to film there on a day with poor weather, as opposed to the The Force Awakens shoot which required a nice day.

As always this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.
