Ever since Josh Trank announced he was leaving the second Star Wars Anthology film, fans have been speculating about who might take over the reigns of the 2018 film. The Wrap's Jeff Sneider reported on "Meet the Movie Press" that Lucasfilm has met with at least one director who might be interested in helming the project. That director is Michelle McLaren. While you may not know her name, you've probably seen something she's directed. Mclaren has worked on some of the biggest TV shows over the past few years, including Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and The Walking Dead.
I think McLaren would be a fantastic choice, anyone who has worked on those three TV shows I mentioned above is more than qualified to work on Star Wars. McLaren was slated to direct Warner Brothers and DC's Wonder Woman film, but left the project in April and has yet to line up her next project. Other names that have been linked to the 2018 Anthology film are Jon Favreau (Iron Man) and Matthew Vaughn (Kingsmen: The Secret Service), though Sneider also stated he had heard that Vaughn was no longer in the running. It's unclear how much work had actually been done on the film when Trank left earlier this year.
You can hear what Sneider had to say at the 48 minute mark of the video below,
As always this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.
