JJ Abrams recently went on record about not wanting there to be to many call backs to stuff from the previous movies being included in the sequel trilogy simply for the sake of fan nostalgia. But that doesn't mean there still can't be one or two, right? Our friends over at MakingStarWars.net have heard a new rumor about a small moment in the film that will cause the audience to think back fondly to 1977 (or whenever they first saw the film), with a nod to Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. As always there is a chance that this may not be true, but if you are trying to avoid all The Force Awakens, then stop reading now. This is you SPOILER ALERT! And if you do choose to read on, be careful about where you share this story and don't go telling people who don't want to be spoiler what happened.

This scene takes place after Rey and Finn have stolen the Millennium Falcon, escaped Jakku, landed on a freighter, ran into Han and Chewie, and gotten in a fight with some gangs during which Chewie gets injured.
According to MSW,
As the Falcon frees itself from the freighter and escapes, Finn tends to Chewbacca’s wounds. While making small talk with the Wookiee, Finn finds a bag near his feet. He casually picks the bag up and opens it while chatting and fiddles with the remote Luke Skywalker trains with in A New Hope:
As Finn finishes talking, he seems disinterested in the remote, puts it back in the bag and places it back where he found it.
Since hearing this, I have pondered the meaning behind it if there is any at all. It might just be a “remember when!” Easter Egg. It might be a bit of foreshadowing that Finn isn’t destined to follow the way of the lightsaber. Or it might mean this stuff is coming to him because he was destined to find it all.

I have to say, I love this idea. I think this will be a really nice little nod back to the classic trilogy and I like the way it could hint at Finn's future. It doesn't heavy handed, but at the same time isn't too obscure that most members of the audience will likely understand what's going on. It feels natural.
As always this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.
