At long last the Star Wars saga is being released digitally.  Lucasfilm, Disney, and 20th Century Fox announced tonight all six current Star Wars films are being released on a variety of platforms including MGO, Vudu, Google Play, iTunes, Amazon, Xbox Video, PlayStation, and more.  Included in the release are several bonus features, many we've seen before on DVD and blu-ray releases, but also several new ones.  Pre-orders are available now and the films will be available this Friday!

Walt Disney Studios President Alan Bergman told StarWars.com,
“Since the debut of the first film nearly 40 years ago, Star Wars has become a worldwide phenomenon with legions of fans from every generation. It’s only fitting that audiences enjoy this legendary Saga and its many fascinating behind-the-scenes stories on a wide variety of platforms, and we’re very excited to finally bring all six films to Digital HD for the first time.”

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy also told StarWars.com that,
"These films broke new ground in technology, design, sound, and visual effects, and we’ve created some very special bonus material which delves into the Saga’s rich history, including new and never-before-released conversations between legendary Star Wars artists – the masters who helped George bring his iconic universe to life."

We're also excited to announce that we've partnered with our friends at MGO to host a special Twitter Chat this Wednesday at 8:00pm EDT/5:00pm PDT to celebrate the release.  This will include some awesome prizes!  To participate in the chat be sure to use the hashtag #JediMGO.  Please RSVP to the event by commenting below with your Twitter handle.  MGO is also the only place where you get reward points by downloading the Star Wars films.  That's 100 points per film or 1138 points if you pre-order the six film bundle.

MGO is also offering special prices on the Original Trilogy, they are:
Ep IV:  Star Wars: A New Hope $14.99
Ep V: Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back $17.50
Ep VI: Star Wars: Return of the Jedi $17.50
As low as $49.99 for all three.

You can order all six films for $89.99 (and get the 1138 points).

A commercial for the Digital release aired during the NCAA March Madness tonight and has since been uploaded to the official Star Wars YouTube channel.  Check it out below,
I can think of no better way to get ready for The Force Awakens coming later this year, or even next week's Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, then by revisiting the classic films.

We hope to see you on Twitter on Wednesday!
