Things seem to be heating up behind the scenes on the 2016 Star Wars stand alone film, directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Gary Whitta. Or at least news is starting to leak out from the production. A new report from our friends over at Jedi News suggests that filming on the new film will be sooner than expected, in February 2015 to be exact.
This is sooner than other reports we've heard over the past few weeks which suggested the film would begin shooting in March. According to Jedi News,
"We're
hearing today that the first standalone will shoot as early as February
2015, with sets already assembled and ready to go at Pinewood Studios.
If this is indeed the case we'd expect cast announcements two to three weeks before, so any time from mid-January onwards."
This is exciting news, if true. It means they are much further along in the process than we suspected (I, for one, did not expect to hear that any sets had been built). Regardless of when the film actually starts shooting, I'm more looking forward to getting some more official details about this film, like cast and premise. Right now all we have is director, writer, cinematogrpaher, and release date (December 16, 2015).
