Star Wars Rebels executive producer, and Episode VII consultant Simon Kinberg spoke with Empire Online about a variety of topics related to the upcoming animated series including the series villain The Inquisitor (voiced by Jason Isaacs), as well as connections between the series and Star Wars Episodes VII
When asked about the Inquisitor's state of mind, Kinberg said he is "less of a believer in the Empire and the cause of the Empire than perhaps Darth Vader, and more of a hunting dog." He also danced around the question about the Inquisitor seen in Rebels will appear in Episode VII (there have been rumors about Inquisitors in Episode VII) saying, "On Star Wars I get a Force Choke when I start saying things I shouldn't say."
Kinberg didn't dismiss the possibilities of Episode VII connections in Rebels. He told Empire, he "always felt it would lead into IV and potentially set up characters you might not meet until V, or VI, or even VII, but the notion was that this would stand alone from Episode VII. That doesn't mean that we can't introduce Easter eggs that will pay off in VII, VIII, IX."
Like I said, there are rumors about Inquisitors in Episode VII so, while I doubt that the Inquisitor we will see in the series will appear in Episode VII, I could definitely see them establishing what the Inquisitors are, and exploring what they've been doing during the Original Trilogy era, in Rebels. But that's just speculation on my part.
