After a three year hiatus, Lucasfilm announced today the return of the Star Wars Fan Film Awards. The awards showcase the best creativity in Star Wars fan films and awards are given for various categories (or at least they were in the past, who knows what it will be like this time). The awards were originally run from 2001 to 2011 through a partnership between Lucasfilm and Atom.com. However, when Atom.com went out of business in 2011, the awards ended. Today Lucasfilm announced their return on StarWars.com saying,
Lucasfilm is excited to announce that the Star Wars Fan Film Awards are coming back — and shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.
Celebrating fan-made short films inspired by a galaxy far, far away, the Star Wars
Fan Film Awards will return for the first time in three years,
welcoming different genres and styles. The best short films will be
screened at Star Wars Celebration 2015 in Anaheim, California. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.
With Star Wars entering an unprecedented new era of creativity, Lucasfilm is thrilled to bring back the Star Wars Fan Film Awards.
They also included a playlist of most of the past winners from 2001-2011.
I am very excited about the return of the awards. I attended the awards ceremony at Celebration V in 2010 and had a great time. I look forward to seeing what the fans come up with for Celebration 2015.
