The Old Republic Getting Two Expansions in 2014

By: Lillian Skye

It has been confirmed by Bruce Maclean, Senior producer at Bioware, that Star Wars: The Old Republic will be getting two expansions this year. "The team that brought you 2013 is still here and working hard to bring you another action packed year," he wrote in a post regarding the game's future.

According to the Producer's Road Map for 2014, the first update, Galactic Starfighter Digital Expansion, is set to release today. The update introduces new features such as six new Galactic Starfighter ships, detailed scoreboards about in-game battle performance, and Kuat Drive Yards Tactical Flashpoint, which scales in difficulty with your level in the game.  Through the expansion, Galactic Starfighter is now available to free-to-play users.

Other updates include double XP weekend March 14th through the 17th, and two new Flashpoints on Tython and Korriban starting April 8th. New ships and "the biggest update up to this point" are coming in June.

Although updates are subject to change, Maclean said that The Old Republic team is actively developing new updates for the game in addition to new PvP Seasons, Flashpoints, Operations, and gear. Players should expect to see performance improvements as well as changes coming to Classes.

  1. Unless they're extending class and companion stories and implementing player housing, I've no interest in anything they're putting out. GSF holds no interest for me.

  3. GSF went into full release last year.

Updating an already released feature isn't an expansion. It's an update.

The only thing they've mentioned about an expansion is; "the biggest update up to this point". It doesn't use the word expansion, it uses the word update... For obvious reasons. A big "update", is NOT an "expansion".

    Most misleading article, ever.

  5. It says later in the mentioned article on swtor.com, that we can expect two expansions this year, and GSF wasn't open to everyone in 2013, only to subs.

And seing that ROTHC was basically only PVE content, and a lot of people have been asking for over a year for more PVP, then it's only fair that GSF is PVP content. Especially when you think of all the other PVE content that has been released since ROTHC. It's difficult to make everyone satisfied.

Although I hope they bring in more class story content, I thinkt they've done a great job. Bravo!!
