The special effects wizards at Industrial Light & Magic are preparing for a substantial expansion, which starts in London, England. With films like Marvel's Avengers: Age Of Ultron and, of course, Star Wars Episode VII, ILM seeks to grow globally to accommodate those films along with other projects from Disney and other studios. In addition to expanding their facilities and staff in Vancouver, they plan to move into a leased space outside of London in a neighborhood called Soho in late March/early April after a remodel. “It will be a full service studio... We’ll have an art department, previsualization, and an entire end-to-end visual effects and computer graphics pipeline," said ILM president and general manager Lynwen Brennan when talking with The Hollywood Reporter. One of the defining reasons why ILM chose to build this new studio in London is it's close proximity to Pinewood studios, where filming for Episode VII will soon begin. But this facility won't handle all of Episode VII's VFX work . The aforementioned "graphics pipeline" will allow the London studio to share work with ILM offices and partners around the World.
This report comes after The Wrap reported in April of last year that ILM was looking to open a studio in London. Consider this confirmation a credibility point for them!
