Phil Tippet at work on Return Of The Jedi. |
Will some old school talent be joining the ranks of the Star Wars Episode VII production crew? Most Str Wars fans are probably familiar with Phil Tippet. Phil got his start working for George Lucas creating the Dejarik Holo Chess game in A New Hope using stop motion animation. He went on to be heavily involved in the creation of special affects in the rest of the Original Trilogy, as well as blockbusters such as RoboCop, Starship Troopers and Jurassic Park. These days, Mr. Tippet is preparing take on the role of "Dinosaur Supervisor" on Jurassic World. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Phil was asked about the possibility of returning to another classic franchise he previously worked on:
HR: Will you also be working on the new Star Wars movie?
Phil Tippet: I talked to [Luscasfilm president] Kathleen Kennedy about it, but first will be Jurassic World, then we'll see where they're at.
It's no confirmation, but they are talking about it. Due to Phil's commitment to Jurassic World, which is slated for release June 12, 2015, he may be unable to to work on Episode VII. But that doesn't rule out Episode VIII, IX or the spin-off films. Last year at Star Was Celebration in Germany, Kathleen Kennedy expressed Lucasfilm's interest in using more practical effects in Episode VII. In that case, the legendary Phil Tippet would be a great asset to the film.
