Today we received word from Lucasfilm that J.J Abrams, in addition to directing, is currently writing the script for Episode VII alongside Star Wars veteran Lawrence Kasdan. We are left to assume that Michael Ardnt, who was the writer for the film initially, has left the production. This raises many questions about what exactly is going on behind the scenes. Devin Faraci at Badass Digest thinks he has an idea.
In addition to believe that Episode VII's release date could be moved to 2016, he claims that the story Michael Ardnt wrote has been abandoned and Kasdan and Abrams are starting anew:
"I heard they scrapped the entire Arndt script as early as July, but I didn't know that meant they were scrapping Arndt as well... What's the big change? My sources tell me that the focus of the story has changed in a big way, that it's a whole new set of characters being followed than in the Arndt script... It seems like there's a complete overhaul. Top to bottom. This isn't a rewrite, this is a completely different movie with different main characters. "
He adds that Episode VII is "still finding its way" which is the reason for the lack of official news. Be sure to read the full article on BadassDigest.com.
As always, this is just a rumor, take it with a grain of salt.
