Well, it was fun while it lasted.  Fans who got their hopes up that Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch had been cast in Star Wars Episode VII, I'm afraid I'm the bearer of bad news.  After rumors started swirling yesterday that Cumberbatch had been cast in the upcoming film directed by JJ Abrams, a representative for the British actor denied the rumors today.  The rep told the NY Daily News,

"There is no truth to the rumour Benedict has been cast in Star Wars.  I think the rumours  are circling because JJ and Benedict have just recently had a wonderful time working together on Star Trek ."

So there you have it, another rumor quashed.  This was certainly a exciting rumor for fans of the actor, however it's probably for the best.  Cumberbatch already has major roles in three major geek franchises (Sherlock Holmes, Star Trek, and The Hobbit Trilogy).

And now we wait for the next casting rumour....
