Rumor: ILM to Open New Facility in London for Episode VII

The website The Wrap, who were the first to bring us the news that J.J. Abrams was directing Star Wars Episode VII, are now reporting that Industrial Light and Magic, the visual effects company founded by George Lucas to work on the original Star Wars, is exploring opening a facility in London, England and that the new studio would be used primarily for Episode VII.  Opening a studio in the UK would allow the studio to take advantage of various tax breaks the British government offers post production companies.  While London is definitely in the running, ILM president Miles Perkins reminds us that no decision has been made, saying "We're evaluating a number of different scenarios and doing our due diligence."  This wouldn't be the first time ILM has opened a new studio outside their base in San Fransisco to take adavntage of tax credits.  Back in 2012 they opened a studio in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada for similar reasons.

Now might be a good time for Visual Effects artists in the UK to start refining the resumes!  Head over to The Wrap to read all about the potential studio, as well as the effect it may have on other Visual Effects companies situated in England.
