Clone Wars Preview: Eminence

By: Benjamin Hart

This Saturday marks the return of Darth Maul, Savage Opress & Pre Vizsla to Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Eminence, the fourteenth episode of season five, is a direct follow up to the first episode of the season, Revival. The plot will no doubt thicken as the trio and their entourage journey to Nal Hutta and Mustafar seeking out help in building an army of their own. You can check out the full episode guide on StarWars.com here.

In a recent Facebook post Supervising Director Dave Filoni had this to say about the upcoming episodes:

"...Playtime is over, Darth Maul is back. Be prepared, for the next two arcs of this Season are not your average Clone Wars episodes. There are definite consequences for some of our favorite characters in the weeks ahead. These are episodes of great deeds and terrible acts, where our heroes are tested, and not all prevail. Maul’s quest for power will not go unnoticed by the other villains in the series, the best Lightsaber fights we have ever filmed are in the episodes ahead, you will have to decide which one is your favorite....

The Darth Maul Arc was the final work on the Clone Wars by my friend Ian Abercrombie, who passed away last January, almost one year ago. This final performance is his best. I can’t wait for you to see it. I think it’s a performance many of you have been waiting for. Remember, in The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul was but an apprentice; now you will see why Darth Sidious is the Master."

Fortune cookie: "One vision can have many interpretations."

Synopsis: Savage and Maul forge an alliance with Death Watch to target a common enemy: Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Trivia:

- Guest Stars: Pre Vizsla is voiced by Producer/Director Jon Favreau, Darth Maul is voiced by actor Sam Witwer (Being Human), Savage Opress is voiced by actor Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption) and Bo-Katan is voiced by actress Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica).

- The discovery of the incapacitated Sith brothers, nearly frozen in a drifting starship, was staged as an homage to the opening scenes of Aliens (1986) wherein Ripley is found by a salvage team.

- All the Huttese dialogue in the episode was translated from English. The phrase “Stuka Crispo,” heard uttered by Jabba the Hutt, means “Death Watch.”
