Star Wars Rebels returned with a bang on Saturday with the season three premiere episode "Steps Into Shadow". The episode saw the return of many of the previously established characters, and also featured the introduction of several new ones. Among them was Arihnda Pryce, Imperial Governor of the Lothal sector. Pryce, who is voiced by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, has been mentioned a number of times going all the way back to season one, but this third season is the first time she's appeared in the flesh. If you were wondering why Governor Pryce has suddenly made her presence know in the series, allow me to point you toward a new video released by Lucasfilm.

Report: Lucasfilm & ABC In Talks To Produce A Primetime Star Wars TV Series

By: Benjamin Hart

For over a decade now rumors have circulated about a possible live action Star Wars television series. "Star Wars: Underworld" was a series that was developed by George Lucas himself, and ultimately shelved, prior to the Star Wars creator selling Lucasfilm to Disney. Ever since Disney took over there has been talk that Underworld, or something like it, could be brought to the small screen. Now it appears we have our first bit of hard evidence that a new series is actually on the way!

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that at the Television Critics Association’s semi-annual press tour the ABC network's entertainment president Channing Dungey was quizzed about the possibility of a new primetime Star Wars television series. Dungey not only expressed interest in the proposition, but confirmed that negations are indeed happening regarding a new series. Here's what she had to say:

“Oh, as a fan, I would absolutely love to say ‘Yes’... The conversations with Lucas, we have had conversations with them and will continue to have conversations with them. I think it would be wonderful if we could find a way to extend that brand into our programming.”

Later she further confirms that talks between Lucasfilm and ABC are "ongoing" and that an official timeline has not yet been established. Dungey would not confirm if this proposed series will be live action, but that's something that seems like a given anyway.

After many years of hoping and speculating, it sounds like we're on the cusp of live action Star Wars storytelling finally making the jump to the small screen(no, the Holiday Special doesn't count). This is incredibly exciting news!

In what era would you like to see this new series set in? The Old Republic? Prequel, Original or Sequel trilogies? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

The newest episode of The Star Wars Show was just released on the official Star Wars YouTube channel and they have revealed a major Star Wars Rebels sneak peek. Just a few minutes into the show Executive Producer Dave Filoni makes a surprise appearance to discuss Celebration, and also brings with him the first clip from season three of Rebels. The over two-minute long clip features Ezra, Sabine and Zeb breaking Hondo and a friend out of a prison cell. The biggest reveal in the clip is a brand new look for Ezra, who is also wielding a brand new Blaster and Lightsaber! The clip begins at 3:39 in the video below:

We are sure to see much more from season three, including the first two episodes, at the Star Wars Rebels panel at Celebration later this week, which takes place this Saturday at 16:00 on the Celebration stage.

New 'Rogue One' Trailer To Air July 15th On ABC

By: Benjamin Hart

For those anxiously awaiting the next trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, it has been confirmed that we are mere days away from seeing it! Our friends at Making Star Wars have alerted us to the news that a number of TV schedules have added listings for a broadcast of the documentary Secrets Of The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey on ABC at 8:00pm ET on Friday, July 15th. While the  television debut of Episode VII's behind the scenes documentary is big news itself, it's the fine print that's really exciting.

The description on certain listings reveals that a three-minute long trailer for Rogue One will also be accompanying the documentary. Whether the trailer will air before, during or after the main presentation is unclear.

The most interesting thing about this is the fact that this trailer will be airing just hours after the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story panel takes place at Star Wars Celebration in London. Everyone has been expecting a trailer to premiere at the panel, which is happening at 4:00pm GMT(11:00am ET). It seems to me that the trailer will be officially unveiled at Celebration and will be presented to TV audiences later in the day on ABC. While it's possible the trailer could be exclusively shown at Celebration and held back from the rest of the world until it airs on ABC, that seems unlikely. Lucasfilm has been notorious for releasing their trailers online as soon as they're shown at live events. Nevertheless, the main point here is the confirmation that we are indeed getting a new trailer on the 15th, and it's three minutes long. That is incredibly exciting.

The Star Wars Underworld team will be on the ground in London next week to report back on all the big news that's revealed, so keep it here for the latest updates!

Catherine Taber To Return As Numa In 'Star Wars Rebels'

By: Benjamin Hart

It appears yet another beloved character, and their voice actor, from Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be making a return in Star Wars Rebels very soon. Early on, before Rebels began, we learned that the Ghost's daring pilot Hera Syndulla shared her surname with fan favorite Clone Wars character Cham Syndulla, and it was later revealed that Cham is indeed Hera's father and he will be making his Rebels debut in the upcoming episode "Homecoming". Ever since the season two second half trailer dropped speculation has run rampant about who some of the other Twi'leks with Cham could be, and Lucasfilm's Tracy Cannobbio has confirmed on Twitter that Numa will also be appearing, once again voiced by Catherine Taber.

Numa previously appeared as a child in The Clone Wars season one episode "Innocents On Ryloth" and quickly became memorable for her interplay with Clone Troopers Waxer and Boil. Star Wars Rebels will feature an all grown up Numa alongside Cham and other Rebels amidst the fight against the Empire. Catherine Taber, who voiced numerous characters in The Clone Wars, most notably Padmé Amidala and Numa, will be making her Star Wars Rebels debut by returning to voice the older Numa.

Star Wars Rebels: Homecoming airs on Wednesday, February 17th at 9:00pm ET/PT on Disney XD!

Rumor: 'Star Wars Rebels' Season Two To Have Hour-Long Finale

By: Benjamin Hart

Apparently the second season of Star Wars Rebels will be going out with a bang in just a few weeks. Jedi-Bibliothek has reportedly uncovered info and titles for the last few episodes of the season. Not only does it look like we will finally be seeing the fateful meeting between Darth Vader and Ahsoka, but the final episode appears to be an hour-long double episode. Here's what they revealed:

  • 2 × 18 "Shroud of Darkness" (roughly: "Veil of Darkness") - USA: March 2, 2016
  • 2 × 19 "The Forgotten Droid" (roughly: "The forgotten droid" - USA: March 16, 2016
  • 2 × 20 "The Mystery of Chopper Base" (roughly: "The secret of the chopper base") - USA: March 23, 2016
  • 2 × 21 "Twilight of the Apprentice: Part I" (roughly: "Twilight of the student: Part I" - or "the student") - USA: March 30, 2016
  • 2 × 22 "Twilight of the Apprentice: Part II" (roughly: Twilight of the student: Part II ") - USA: March 30, 2016

Although the "Twilight of the Apprentice" episodes feature part I and Part II subtitles, it's more than likely that the episodes will be edited together to form an hour-long episode similar to the previous season premiere episodes "Spark Of Rebellion" and "Siege Of Lothal". Regardless, it looks as though we'll be getting an hour's worth of Rebels action to close out this season. Also, "The Mystery of Chopper Base" sounds very intriguing. Last year it was revealed that one episode in season two will focus on Chopper and how Hera found him. This very well could be that episode and I can't wait to see it.

As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed by Lucasfilm or Disney. Take this info with a grain of salt for the time being.

Report: No Current Plans For Live-Action Star Wars On TV

By: Benjamin Hart

For years we've heard about the "Star Wars: Underworld" live action television series and wondered if and when it would ever see the light of day. It was way back in 2005, prior to the release of Revenge Of The Sith, that George Lucas himself announced that he was overseeing the development of the series. Years have passed and the series was subsequently shelved, but Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012 presented some hope that the series may still be made a reality. Unfortunately a new report has seemingly confirmed that, despite some recent positive comments by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, the Underworld series, and any potential live action Star Wars TV series, will remain shelved for the time being. TV Line recently spoke with Paul Lee, president of the Disney owned ABC network. On Lucasfilm's overall strategy for storytelling he had this to say:

"They are focused on their movies, so we don’t have any plans at the moment.”

Additionally, TV Line contacted an anonymous Lucasfilm source who agreed:

“Our current focus for TV is on animation [Star Wars Rebels, etc.].”

I suppose it is commendable that Lucasfilm is trying to stay focused on their current projects rather than trying to produce as much Star Wars content as possible on all fronts. As we speculated in the latest SWU Podcast, it's plausible that when the time comes for a new live-action series to be put into production, Lucasfilm could cease production of feature films for a time in order to shift focus. While I am have the opinion that there is no such thing as too much Star Wars, overwhelming the general public with Star Wars content might be something they'll want to avoid. But all we can do is speculate for now until Underworld gets the greenlight sometime in the future.

In the meantime, there's absolutely no shortage of Star Wars with various books, comics, an animated series and a film every year. As Star Wars fans, we've got nothing to complain about.

Verizon Reveals TV Spot Featuring Chewbacca & BB-8

By: Benjamin Hart

The media blitz for Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens is in full swing and Star Wars is literally everywhere these days. One of the biggest treats to look forward to when anticipating a new Star Wars film is the television ads that are revealed, and recently a brand new one popped up from the Cell Phone provider Verizon. The ad features BB-8 and Chewbacca as they attempt to download something from a console while remaining undetected by a squad of First Order Stormtroopers. Things do not go as planned and Chewie ends up in a shootout with the Troopers. It's an amazing ad simply because it plays out like a scene from the film, even though that's obviously not the case. Verizon certainly spared no expense in giving this TV spot an authentic Star Wars feel. You can check it out below:

This one just might top the Energizer ad we saw a few weeks back. It's certainly awesome to Star Wars back on the small screen in this way. I can't see more ads from other companies as well!

Two New 'Star Wars Rebels' Season Two Clips Revealed

By: Benjamin Hart

Tomorrow season two of the hit animated series Star Wars Rebels kicks off with the brand new episode "The Lost Commanders" which features the return of three beloved Clones from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Today we have been treated to, not one, but two clips from the episode. The first comes from IGN and shows Kanan, Ezra, Zeb and Sabine meeting the Clones, and ends in a tense standoff. In the second clip, which comes from ComicBook.com, the confrontation is diffused with the mention of a mutual friend. Check them both out below:

Interestingly, Rex mentions that he fought alongside Ahsoka "from the battle of Christophsis to the siege Of Mandalore". The siege of Mandalore is an event that we have actually yet to see. That story was originally set to be told in an episode arc of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but the series ended before those episodes could be finished. Dave Filoni subsequently revealed concept art from those episodes which gave us a brief glimpse at what they had in store. Perhaps Rebels will finally fill us in on what that story entailed.

"The Lost Commanders" premieres tomorrow(Wednesday) at 9:30pm ET/PT on Disney XD!

Star Wars Rebels has been making a lot of headlines recently. Last week at a press conference we learned from executive producer Dave Filoni that we will be treated to a brand new trailer for the upcoming second season of the hit animated series. While we're still anticipating that trailer, we just got another taste of the action via a short but epic TV spot. Our friends at Rebel Transmission have pointed to the Disney XD Asia YouTube channel where a brand new TV spot was uploaded featuring nearly all new footage. In it we see some space action, Ezra battling the Seventh Sister and appearances by Commander Sato, Agent Kallus and Captain Rex. It also should be noted that the dates and times mentioned in the TV spot are for the Asian releases of Rebels and do not apply to other premieres, such as the North American one. You can check out the video below:
