EW Unveils Tons More Photos & Info From 'Rogue One'

By: Benjamin Hart

These past couple days have been incredibly exciting thanks to a plethora of reveals for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story from Entertainment Weekly. The latest one that was just unveiled features a gallery of new photos from the film along with some brand new accompanying information that is truly fascinating. In the photos we get never before seen looks at our main characters in stunning environments, Stormtroopers, both new and old, and some behind the scenes shots. You can check them all out below!

First off, we get some shots of Jyn Erso, played by Felcity Jones. Industrial Light & Magic CEO John Knoll, who came up with the story for Rogue One and is an executive producer on the film, spoke briefly about why he felt the story should be focused on a female hero and her father:

“I’m a father with three daughters, and I felt it was time to have a really good, smart, resourceful, strong female character in the lead of a movie like this,.. I wrote that before I saw a treatment for Episode VII, so I didn’t know about Rey.”

Next, we get a better shot of Diego Luna's character, Captain Cassian Andor. Kiri Hart of the Lucasfilm Story Group explains that Andor is an experienced fighter who's seen a lot but isn't interested in discussing it:

"He has a weariness that he carries. It comes from, 'We’re in it, I’m committed for the long fight, and it’s not something that I came to yesterday.'"

Furthermore, we get an assortment of new glimpses at the characters Chirrut Îmwe and Baze Malbus, portrayed by Donnie Yen and Jiang Wen, respectively. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy reveals that these characters take ques from works that inspired Star Wars' creation in the first place; the two peasants in Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress:

“They’re inspired, again, by what inspired George in The Hidden Fortress. You could even say to some extent it’s, you know, R2 and C-3PO, a little bit of that.”

Next up, we get a better look at the security droid character K-2SO, played by Alan Tudyk. Director Gareth Edwards desrcibes Kaytoo as a "blunt" speaker who will be a source of humor as well:

"He has a very dry delivery. He doesn’t realize what he's saying is very funny."

And rounding out the heroes we have new photo of Bohdi Rook, played by Riz Ahmed:

And now, on to the villains. While Darth Vader will have a presence in the film, Director Orson Krennic, played by Ben Mendolsohn, will be the main antagonist of the story. Krennic is the one in charge of protecting the Death Star in its final stages of construction. Kiri Hart explains how Krennic is similar, but also very different from Imperial officers we've seen in the past, such as Wilhuff Tarkin:

“Tarkin is the model for these really cool, icy types, you know? Krennic runs a little hotter than that, so that’s kind of fun and it’s a little bit different. … He is unpredictable and volatile.”

Next, some stunning looks at the new Death Troopers. In the first photo you may notice that the Trooper is carrying a Stormtrooper doll. EW confirms that is indeed the Star Wars equivalent of an action figure, although it's unclear how it will figure into the plot:

And as we see the Death Troopers in a beach enviroment, we also get looks at some classic Stormtroopers in similar surroundings. EW reports that this aquatic landscape will represent a yet-to-be-revealed world that is in the vicinity of the Death Star at the time of Rogue One. Gareth Edwards confirms that these scenes were filmed on the tropical island nation of Maldives in the Indian Ocean. He also discusses that the real world influences on this portion of the film:

“There’s this sort of South Pacific, tropical paradise planet that subconsciously leads into some of the imagery associated with World War II. We went to lots of different places around the world, and one of them was the Maldives. When you're shooting Stormtroopers in paradise, you have the best job in the world, you know? You can't really deny it at that point.”

And last, but certainly not least, we have a behind the scenes shot which EW confirms is from the set of the Yavin IV Rebel base. In it, we see(from left to right) Alan Tudyk(in motion capture gear), Felicty Jones, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen and Gareth Edwards:

Be sure to head over to Entertainment Weekly to see more! Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on December 16th!

By: Benjamin Hart

Force Friday saw the release of wave one of Hasbro's Black Series line of action figures from The Force Awakens. But that was just the beginning, and since then figures from several of the future waves have leaked online. The most recent one comes from our friends at Jedi News who shared photos of the 6-inch Black Series First Order Snowtrooper officer figure on their Instagram. We learned recently that this figure will part of wave two of The Force Awakens line, along with Constable Zuvio, Poe Dameron, Captain Phasma and a Guavian Enforcer. The Snowtrooper officer will be a Toys"R"Us exclusive and was spotted in stores in the UK retailing for £22.99. Jedi News adds that sales are being limited to one per person and only 180 were in stock. You can check out the photos Jedi News shared below, as well as some high quality promotional shots:

Report: Battlefront Imperial Shock Trooper 6'' Black Series Figure Revealed

By: Benjamin Hart

Even well before Force Friday it seemed The Force Awakens has been dominating Star Wars collecting news lately. Some of the most sought after pieces of merchandise recently have been from Hasbro's Black Series line of action figures. While characters such as Rey, Finn and Kylo Ren have been huge sellers for the past couple weeks, a new figure is on the way from another upcoming Star Wars project that will surely catch the eyes of collectors.

Jedi Temple Archives reported earlier this week that Order Sixty Six toys posted a listing for a six-inch Black Series Imperial Shock Trooper figure based on the troopers that will be featured in the upcoming game Star Wars Battlefront. It includes two accessories; a sniper rifle and a standard Imperial E-11 Blaster rifle. You can see the Shock Troopers briefly in some previously released gameplay from Battlefront(above, left). The figure was available for a pre-order for a short time before selling out, but we still have two photos of the piece(above, right & below).

The figure is listed with an expected released date of March 28th, 2016. With Star Wars Battlefront itself set to hit Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC on November 17th, it looks like we'll be playing as(or shooting at) these Shock Troopers in the game long before we can add one to our collections.

Rumor: 'The Force Awakens' 6-Inch Black Series Figures Revealed

By: Benjamin Hart

Leaks from The Force Awakens have recently switched from story and set photos to merchandise. We have been treated to tons of photos of an array of different items that were mistakenly revealed by some retailers prior to when they're supposed to be released on "Force Friday"(September 4th). Some of the bigger leaks have focused on action figures, and that's exactly what we have here; what we can assume will be the first wave of The Force Awakens 6-inch Black series figures. The Ultimate Toy Collector appears to have got his hands on all five figures(and BB-8) and has released a plethora of images of the figures both in and out of their packaging. You can check out a few of those photos above and below:

You can visit The Ultimate Toy Collector's Facebook page to see all the rest of the photos of the figures. Of course, we can't completely verify the legitimacy of these figures just yet, so take this report with a grain of salt until they're officially confirmed by Lucasfilm, or we see them on shelves on Force Friday. And, as always, stay tuned to The Star Wars Underworld for plenty more news and leaks!

Daniel Craig Denies Playing A Stormtrooper in 'The Force Awakens'

By: Benjamin Hart

Over the course of the production of The Force Awakens we're heard many different reports about actors who may or may not have roles in the film, both big and small. One of the most famous names discussed has been Daniel Craig. It was last year when we first first heard that the James Bond actor might have a cameo in Episode VII, and it was later seemingly confirmed by Simon Pegg that Craig was indeed playing a Stormtrooper in the film. Now Craig has officially gone on record to inform us that he is, in fact, not in Star Wars. Entertainment Weekly recently spoke with him and asked about his rumored role, which he responded:

“Why would I ever bother doing something like that? F—ing hell! Pffft. Play an extra in another movie?... Talk to Simon Pegg. He obviously knows way more than I do. He’s just jealous because he’s not in Star Wars. He’s got some issue with J.J. I don’t know what the f— it is. You need to talk to Simon about it.”

His last comments are particularly confusing considering that the behind the scenes video that was released at San Diego Comic Con last week confirmed that Simon Pegg actually is in The Force Awakens. Obviously because this is just text it's hard to determine exactly what Craig means since we can't actually hear him saying it. I'm inclined to believe that he is simply joking here, or at the very least being coy and having fun with it. I'd like to say "just wait and see" but if Daniel Craig really is in the The Force Awakens wearing a First Order Stormtrooper outfit, it's likely we'll never know. Hopefully this mystery surrounding this will be solved sooner or later.
