Rumor: 'Knights of the Old Republic' to see an HD Remake in 2016

One of the most popular video games in Star Wars history may be about to make a comeback.  Cinleinx is reporting that an HD remake of the 2003 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic will hit shelves in 2016.  According to Cinelix's Jordan Maison

"I've heard from multiple sources that Knights of the Old Republic is getting an update for the current generation consoles...and I'm not talking about a resolution remaster; an actual upgrade to the game to make it enjoyable for both new and returning gamers. Better yet, I'm hearing it'll be coming sooner than you think."

The sources report that an announcement is slated for late 2015 and the updated game could be released in mid-2016.
This would be very interesting, if true.  We know the game is still massively popular, Darth Revan won the Hasbro's fan choice poll and is being made into a Black Series 6" action figure.  So the audience is there.  Also, Lucasfilm seems to have no problem continuing to release non-canon, or "legends," material in the old republic era.  The MMORPG, Star Wars: The Old Republic continues to pump out new content so it wouldn't be unprecedented.

While I have great respect for KOTOR's place is Star Wars history, I'd rather Lucasfilm, Disney, and EA focused their time and money on pushing out new content rather that basking in the past.

As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.

By: Benjamin Hart

Over ten years after it's release the beloved role playing video game Knights Of The Old Republic II - The Sith Lords has finally be released on two new platforms and received a long awaited update. The game, which is the sequel to the incredibly popular Knights Of The Old Republic, was first released back in 2004 for Windows and Xbox only. Now Mac and Linux users will be able to download and play KOTOR II from Steam. Additionally, those platforms, along with the PC version, have received an update that includes various new features, fixes and never before seen content. The original game was missing a great deal of things that were planned but ultimately cut from the game. The update will restore much of that lost content.

Steam released a statement earlier this week announcing the news and revealed some of the new features that are included with the update:

  • 37 achievements to be earned through gameplay
  • Steam Cloud saves
  • Native widescreen resolution support
  • Resolution support up to 4K and 5K
  • Support for controllers, including Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, 4 & others
  • Steam Workshop support
  • Force Special Effects menu option

You can view a complete list of changes by clicking here.

The new and improved Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic II - The Sith Lords is now available for Windows, Mac and Linux on Steam and is currently on sale for $7.49. Now's the time to grab this classic game!

By Ciaran Duggan

For all of you Android proprietors out there…Christmas has come early. Last night, Aspyr Media, unveiled via Twitter that KOTR is now available for purchase on Android devices through Google Play Store.

Moreover, the game has been launched on Android devices at a 50% discount. The price totalling at a rather economical sum of $5. Even though this game originally debuted over a decade ago, this RPG remains as popular today as it was in 2003.

So I say to all of you Galaxy Note, NIVADA shield GIZMO and Nexus lovers…get downloading as soon as possible. This ground-breaking, fantasy RPG game will certainly satisfy the stomachs of Star Wars fans. The game showcases a colourful and detailed graphical design which successive RPG games have found incredibly difficult to outclass. Whether you want to join the dark or light side, there is much fun to be had from this iconic game.

The force has finally awaken in android devices too…

DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: CloneTroopr

by: Darth Daddy

CloneTroopr started customizing in 2010. He aims to make figures that either Hasbro will never make (especially characters from games, books, etc., since Disney has now forbidden Hasbro from making any EU figures), has made badly, or sell for ridiculous prices online. Since his start, CloneTroopr’s learned many techniques in customizing from his fellow customizers, practice, experience, and just plain accidents. To keep the cost low, CloneTroopr’s fond of utilizing household materials to make his figures with items such as bread ties, old pens, and otherwise recyclable plastic. CloneTroopr also loves the Knights of the Old Republic and the Old Republic video games, which is where he gets most of his customizing inspiration (he currently plays as Kavyne, Republic faction on the Harbinger server).

I recognize we haven't given enough love to the Old Republic when it comes to putting custom action figure art from these games on display, which is why we felt it was so important for us to feature CloneTroopr this week. Hope you all enjoy!

Although CloneTroopr has been asked on multiple occasions, he unfortunately doesn’t have any plans to do commission work in the in the present or near-future because of how busy he is with work (although you never know, “the future is always in motion”).

If you want to see more action figures created by CloneTroopr, be sure to check out the video slideshow of his work that I featured this week in the "Customs I Wish I Owned" post over at the Customs for the Kid blog.
