Filming for Star Wars: Episode VIII is halfway done, so says writer and director Rian Johnson. In a new post on his Tumblr today, Johnson announced the news, and even better, revealed some brand new set photos from the film. Johnson has made a habit of revealing things on his Tumblr blog, previously posting photos of the Millennium Falcon set and Lupita Nyong'o performing Maz Kanata. This time we get a sneak peak at a crew members cleaning various sets, including a Resistance X-Wing and a First Order work station, both of which are manned by actors in full costume. In addition he wrote:

"I can’t believe we’re halfway through the shoot. (We’re halfway through the shoot!)"

Poe Dameron Gets A 'The Force Awakens' Character Poster

By: Benjamin Hart

Back when we got those amazing character posters for The Force Awakens, which featured Rey, Finn, Han Solo, General Leia and Kylo Ren, one question seemed to be on everyone's mind; where's Poe? The Resistance X-Wing pilot, who's described as "the best friggin' pilot in the galaxy" by Oscar Isaac who portrays him in the film, Poe Dameron's presence in various promotional material has been surprisingly underwhelming as of late. But it seems now Lucasfilm is making up for the lack of Poe with a brand new character poster. Poe is in his flight suit with scars on his face, perhaps implying that we're seeing him after his violent encounter with Kylo Ren that was teased in the trailer. The poster was revealed on the official Star Wars Facebook page, which you can check out below!

It's also worth noting that they refer to him as "Black Leader", which confirms a long standing rumor that this will be Poe's call sign in the film. It's also most likely a reference to the fact that Poe flies a Black X-Wing at some point in the film, as we have seen in various trailers and TV spots.

Photo Of Ken Leung's Character In 'The Force Awakens' Revealed

Although it has yet to be officially announced, we can now confirm that Ken Leung has role in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, and we have photo evidence to prove it. Last month Star Wars 7 News released a report claiming that the actor had been cast in a specific role in The Force Awakens. Today, they have followed up on their claim with an extensive report about Leung. First off, they sight an interview he took part in with Sinembargo, in which Leung confirmed his role in the film, along with something else. Star Wars 7 News provided a translated version of the text:

"It is more than an honor [to be in Star Wars], it is like an amusement park for adults, as it is all very magical, as if you were a child, it is rare, something really great and I can not say more than I am there, because everything is so secret, It was just my pages, I could not leave my dressing room because there were planes trying to take pictures of us, a real secret.

The first ‘Star Wars’ was released the year when my brother was born and he died two years ago but he is always with me. I remember the first time I heard they were filming here in Albuquerque and told my agent I need an audition, but nothing happened.

Then, when he got a call that they wanted me to ‘Star Wars’ I thought it was my brother who was answering my request he had made, because I think a lot about it and this is something very special, “he added.

Princess ‘Leia’ was the first love of my brother and I stayed and talked with her, so everything is very special because I never imagined also be part of that."

Here he mentions New Mexico as a filming location, which has been rumored as such for several years now. Back in 2013 our sources confirmed that Disney had made a three year deal to shoot The Force Awakens in the state. Ken Leung's comments are the first official word we've gotten on the matter. Sinembargo adds that Leung also visited Pinewood Studios in London to film scenes.

To top it all off, Star Wars 7 News has provided us with an actual photo of Ken Leung in costume. Scroll down to check it out. Of course, a minor SPOILER WARNING is due for those who don't want to know anything.

As you can see, Ken Leung appears to be playing a Resistance military officer of some type. In addition, Star Wars 7 News noticed that Leung actually appeared in the Comic Con reel that was released earlier this month. At 2:20 in the video Leung appears for a split-second behind J.J. Abrams and next to Carrie Fisher as Leia, along with C-3PO and others inside what appears to be a Resistance base.

Lots of interesting stuff here! I'm excited to learn more about Ken Leung's character and how big a role he will have in the film. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens opens in theaters December 18th!
