'The Empire Strikes Back Uncut' Released

By: Benjamin Hart

Over the decades Star Wars has attracted an innumerable amount of infamous fan films, parodies and remakes. One such remake is Star Wars Uncut, which is quite possibly the most collaborative fan production ever. The process is simple; the original film is cut into 15 second clips and fans from all over the world are given the chance to claim a scene and recreate it any way they can imagine. The scenes range from live action interpretations performed by the fans themselves to crude stop motion sequences, wacky animations, and even Legos and Puppets. When mashed together seamlessly the clips create a brand new, and hilarious way to watch Star Wars. Star Wars Uncut was originally conceived by developer Casey Pugh back in 2009 to remake Episode IV: A New Hope in this fashion. Then in 2012 the process was restarted in hopes of giving Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back the same treatment. After receiving nearly 2,000 submissions, yesterday "Empire Uncut" was released on the official Star Wars YouTube channel with a special introduction from Lucasfilm's Mary Franklin. Be sure to watch the entire film below:

So, Return Of The Jedi next? And the Prequel Trilogy? Let's hope so!

Ben Affleck Reveals Origin Of Batman V Superman/Star Wars Crossover Rivalry

You've probably seen or heard about the crossover rivalry between Zack Synder and J.J. Abrams. The directors of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and Star Wars Episode VII, respectively, have had an ongoing back-and-forth on Twitter these past few months that have given us several fantastic photos, and one video, that crossed Batman and Superman with the Star Wars universe. From the beginning it was a mystery as to the reasons behind the this duel, but now Batman himself is here to set the record straight. Ben Affleck, who is playing the Caped Crusader in Batman V Superman, recently spoke with Yahoo and spilled the beans on the origin of the rivalry:

“I think it was started because J.J. [Abrams] and Colin Anderson, who is a great [camera] operator who always works on my movies, and J.J. is always trying to steal, and I’m trying to steal back, sent me a picture of the two of them wearing cheap Batman masks,” Affleck revealed. “I showed it to Zack [Snyder], and said ‘this is bulls***, we have to do something.’ And Zack had the means at his disposal to retaliate with appropriately art-directed stuff….I think it’s cool. The sort of meta-awareness of these movies, and the two directors going back and forth… I like it, it’s cool.”

You can hear Affleck's comments a video here.

Many, including myself, believed that the contest could be hinting at Snyder's possible involvement in future Star Wars projects, which he was previously rumored to be. But now it appears we can finally put that speculation to rest, at least for now. Nevertheless, J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot Studios certainly upped the ante with that last video, so I do hope this rivalry continues!

If you happened to miss the rivalry thus far, you can check out our reports on the various chapters of it here, here and here.

Video: Sesame Street's Star Wars Parody

By: Benjamin Hart

Sesame Street has been teaching and entertaining children since before Star Wars existed, so it's certainly about time that the People and Puppets of the classic PBS show made their own parody of A New Hope. Today Sesame Street released "Star S'Mores", which features Cookie Monster as "Flan Solo" hilariously struggling to keep from eating his co-pilot "Chewie" the Cookie. He seeks advice on how to control himself from "Only-One Canoli" and "Groda" on his way to rescue "Princess Parfaita". You can watch the entire video below:

Ironically, Grover was originally voiced by Frank Oz, who also voices Yoda in the Star Wars films. In this video, Grover plays Groda, Sesame Street's version of Yoda. And of course there are plenty of great jokes, including "Use the Four" and Darth Baker's "I am your father". Bravo to Sesame Street for this brilliant parody! Hopefully we can expect more based on the rest of the Star Wars films.
