Prototype Boba Fett Hot Wheels Car To Be Celebration Europe Exclusive

By: Benjamin Hart

With Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016 right around the corner we're finally getting our first look at some of the exclusive collectibles that will be available at the convention. Our friends at Jedi News received word from Mattel that a brand new prototype armor Boba Fett Hot Wheels car will be among the items for sale exclusively at this Celebration.

The design is based on an early concept for Boba Fett(seen in this video) that had the infamous bounty hunter appear in an all-white version of his iconic armor. The toy itself includes twin turbo engines that mimic Boba's jet pack, a range finder and several weapons extending from the hood. Senior Hot Wheels designer Bryan Benedict spoke briefly about translating Fett into car form:

“I am a huge fan of Star Wars, so to get the opportunity to recreate classic characters as part of my job is a huge honour. I am excited to be amongst the fans and to unveil our exclusive Boba Fett car that I designed as a rat rod, because to me Boba Fett is basically a walking rat rod - with his banged up helmet and cool attitude.  But this is a rat rod with super-advanced technology, and, in the case of our Celebration exclusive, he’s been given a pristine white paint scheme to match the prototype armour.”

The cars will be available at booth #S502 on the Celebration floor, and Bryan Benedict will be there Saturday morning for a car signing. In addition, those who attended the Hot Wheels panel on the Behind-The-Scenes stage on Saturday(4:30 PM - 5:30 PM) will get a first look at the upcoming line of Star Wars Hot Wheels cars and will be able to give their two cents on what the next Celebration exclusive will be.

Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016 is happening July 15th - 17th at the ExCel Exhibition Centre in London, England!

The convention season is heating up over the next few weeks with some of the biggest events happening in all corners of the globe. Arguably the biggest convention on the planet is San Diego Comic Con, which is kicking off on July 20th. While it's still unclear what kind of presence Star Wars will have at this year's SDCC, we do have an idea about what kind of exclusive merchandise will be available there. Today, Gentle Giant LTD, Mattel and Entertainment Earth unveiled the collectibles that they will be bringing to SDCC. You can check them out below!

First off, Yahoo Movies reports that Mattel has revealed a Hot Wheels version of the classic Death Star trench run from A New Hope. The set features four Hot Wheels cars in the form of an X-Wing, two TIE Fighters and Darth Vader's TIE Advanced fighter. The cars are packaged in Death Star trench inspired packaging that lights up. The set can be pre-ordered on MattyCollector.com and will be available at SDCC for $50. You can see more photos here.

Next up, Yakface alerted us to the news that Entertainment Earth will have an 18-inch vac-metal C-3PO figure with a red arm, as he appeared in The Force Awakens. The limited edition figure is from Jakks Pacific and features 7 points of articulation. They will be sold exclusive at booth #2343 for $60 each. More details can be found here.

And finally, Yodasnews provided a first look at Gentle Giant's jumbo Farmboy Luke action figures. The two figures, one with brown hair and one with yellow hair, is a 1:6 scale replica enlargement of the original 1983 3 ¾” Return Of The Jedi figure. Both figures feature full articulation to match the original, including the classic yellow retractable Lightsaber. Both versions are limited to 250 pieces and will be available exclusively at SDCC for $80 each. For more photos and information, visit Yodasnews!

By Chris Seekell

The latest edition of Star Wars Insider magazine has revealed Mattel's first Star Wars model car. Pictured above, the 1:64 scale Darth Vader car will be the first in a continuing line of Star Wars merchandise from Hot Wheels. According to Insider, the Vader car will be first sold at San Diego Comic Con this summer, and will come in a special lightsaber display case. Mattel also will display a life size, drive-able version of the car at the convention.

Mattel's Jean Gomez told Insider, "We're going to launch a full line of Star Wars cars in the fall. All cars are cool and fast-looking, but we make sure the type of vehicle matches the character. So, for example, in the Hot Wheels world, Yoda is a mini car and Chewbacca is a big, powerful hauler."

You can read the article in Star Wars Insider #150 for further details.
