Arguably one of the most anticipated characters in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is Chirrut Îmwe. The blind warrior who's strong belief in the Force allows him to kick some series Stormtrooper butt has wowed audiences over and over in the trailers for Rogue One. Even before we saw footage of Chirrut, fans have been ecstatic about the inclusion of Donnie Yen, who plays Îmwe in the film.
Lots of awesome toy news from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was announced this week, including the reveal of Lego's all new line of Rogue One sets. Now we're getting an ever close look at the upcoming sets!
Today, Hoth Bricks alerted us to a collection of animated promotional shorts that surfaced featuring new looks at the recently revealed Rogue One sets. The videos tell brief stories using the vehicles and minifigures included, all the while showcasing the functionality of the sets. A total of five shorts focus on the the sets the will be available in the first wave of Lego's Rogue One collection, including the Imperial Assault Hovertank, Krennic's Imperial Shuttle, the Rebel U-Wing Fighter, AT-ST Walker and TIE Striker. Last night a multitude of news dropped regarding the toys of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, revealing new action figures, Legos and more. Among the new collectibles, we got our first look at two new Funko Pop! vinyl figures; one for Jyn Erso, and another for the villain of the film, director Orson Krennic. Over the past few hours further announcements have come out which have revealed even more Pop! figures.
Yakface reports that Funko released official images of two more figures based on characters from the film. The photos show us that Captain Cassian Andor and his Droid comrade K-2SO will be getting the Funko treatment!
And although they haven't been fully revealed just yet, two more Pop! figure were also revealed today. On today's edition of Good Morning America, an assortment of the new Rogue One toys were unveiled live on the program. While the hosts briefly mention the Pop! figures, the camera shows us some that have yet to be officially announced.
In a close up shot we see the previously mentioned Cassian and Kaytoo figures, but in the background you may notice that there is also two for Chirrut Îmwe:
And later during a wide shot of the display, you can clearly see a figure for Baze Malbus on the far right as well:
You can see a ton more of the new Rogue One toys here, all of which will be headed to store shelves on September 30th!
Once we get done watching Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on the big screen later this year(and early next year), there will be plenty of reading left to do. Lots of tie-in books hitting retailers around and after the film is released, and we've already gotten a glimpse of what some of them may be.
The guys at Jedi-Bibliothek managed to get their hands on some preliminary cover art for three upcoming Rogue One books that they found in the Edelweiss catalog. The first is the junior novelization of the film that is listed with a release date on March 28th, 2017 and features Rogue One's theatrical poster as it's cover:
The second is an untitled Rogue One young adult novel which includes brand new artwork on it's cover. It appears this novel will be focused on Jyn Erso and is slated to be released on May 2nd, 2017:
And lastly, we have a middle grade Rogue One novel titled "Baze & Chirrut". The cover features an artistic interpretation of the characters as they appeared in the first cast photo for the film. This book is also reportedly due out on May 2nd, 2017:
