I am so glad Dominic brought up that the NR not getting involved is not just cause complacency. While I love the Trump impression, at the end of the day Yeager is among those who doubt. We get a quite layered take in some of the supplemental stuff, Resistance in particular so far. The New Republic is not turning a blind eye cause they think the first order are "very fine people" many of them are doing it cause there is a difference between white supremacists marching down the street in our nation, and military fetishists dressing as fascists in their own territory. It is like in the real world, you can put sanctions on them, but at the end of the day it is not unfair to want proof of illegal actions and atrocities before you declare war. I mean even then recklessly declaring war against a smaller power can be a problem, for ****s sake look at the "war on terror" even if one buys (which I sure as hell don't) that it had nothing at all to do with jingoistic idiots, fearmongering, and oil - it still is not a good idea to get super embroiled like that without any actual plan or clear mission.

It is not asking to much to say "bring us an actual reason to make a preemptive strike". Op top of that is the fact that a bunch of centrist worlds just seceded, this has not been shown sadly, but several sources confirm this is the case. So the NR is both unprepared for that, and now has to figure out what to do about the FO while managing losing dozens of powerful and production heavy worlds without causing their populaces to side with the FO.

This conflict is far from black and white, and I don't mean the FO and Resistance, I mean from purely the good guy perspective, even Leia knows this. The Resistance is getting funding, likely from a special committee, from the NR to investigate this threat and get evidence that is satisfactory to declare war.

Their job was to compile info into the Grace Report: I recommend the preface by Leia as it paints an interesting picture as to what the cold war was really like, and why it was not really till the final months if not weeks till the NR really became utterly stuck in gridlock and Leia became more bitter. We see that in the cut scene between her and Korrie, Leia still sending the NR evidence but not caring if they think she is crazy at this point.

To a brighter note, was it to far to allude to kids drowning in a suicide? I mean kids shows make some pretty dark jokes and acknowledgments these days. So long as you don't show it, many channels can get away with it. Like that feels exactly like something Gravity Falls would do.
