So I have some thoughts on the Revan canon question, apologies if this takes two posts due to character limits.

In my opinion Revan will be made canon at some point, far to many fans and active creators adore the character for him to stay away forever. However personally I am nervous about his return. Revan built up this cult of personality that has led to so much in the way of gary Stuing and fights any time he comes up. Revan already had major issues when it comes to what is canon about him and what counts, just within Legends. Mostly due to him not being a character, Revan is a black slate, maybe even moreso than any other Bioware protagonist (save for maybe the Grey Warden but that is a different thing all together).

Revan was wish fulfillment, which is great for KOTOR, but once he gets involved in a story, hell once we talk among fans about him it ends up becoming a battle of what counts cause so many played him differently. While the Revan novel and shadow of Revan are very accurately critical failures, the complaints lobbed at them often had more to do with "that's not my Revan" "how dare they make revan the bag guy" "Revan is the ultimate grey jedi, how dare using the dark side willingly be treated as a bad thing, what is this a franchise that's internal rules have always seen the dark side as the path to evil?" etc etc

That's not to say this is most Revan fans, but even when really nice balanced Revan fans talk (I would even include myself among these people to a point despite preferring the Exile far more) there is still a sense of disappointment that you'r Revan is not the one such and such story used.

Honestly KOTOR 2's brilliance comes from critiquing that, acknowledging that Revan is an idea more than a person. be it an idea of heroism, anti-hero, of a monster. A friend of mine who's primary SW love is KOTOR actually is of the opinion that Revan should not be canon, cause there is no way to bring him in cause what every individual wants when they ask for Revan back, is to have THEIR Revan back.

Also maybe this informed by my bias but I really think Tales of the Jedi should be pulled from more than anything. It has less stake in the fandom, has a super unique take on the universe, has one of the best overarching stories and Jedi falls, and its great characters and ideas are still quite readily adaptable and malleable in a way KOTOR is not. I think you could shift around basic ideas of TOTJ and those of us who obsess over it would not be at all upset cause no one has a super differing opinion on if Ulic was a good guy or not. That and it is LOTR meets SW and is super dramatic and feels like all those operatic elements of SW dialed up to 11. Much as I love those stories, I am totally ok with just the spirit being brought over. So long as Exar Kun is still fabulous I am ok.

Also I very much agree with Ben on Mara, it frankly would be a disservice to these characters with rich and specific characterizations and stories that make them great, and try and shove their square peg into a triangular hole so to speak. Mara may have an inherently cool concept in the Thrawn Trilogy, but what makes her great specifically is her journey, unless we are flat out adapting her 20 years journey as a character (publication time I mean), then we can't really hit what made her great. It would either be just a different character, or we would be trying desperately to make her fit into the same character arc when those actual events can't happen. Thrawn is defined by a basic idea like Dominic pointed out, Mara is defined by her growth and evolution. It's why her and Kyle Katarn, Revan, Cade, the actual Quinlan Vos, and Jaden Korr should be assumed to not be brought back. If there is a really brilliant new story to tell, something that makes them yell "eureka" then by all means do it, but some of these characters they should let be and not try to find a spot for them to fit in. Otherwise we make compromise after compromise for both the story, and for the character themselves, just to fit someone in, often with no assurance that they will really feel the same or connect on the same level with new fans or old fans.
