George Lucas Calls 'The Last Jedi' "Beautifully Made"

By: Dominic Jones

Ever since he sold his company to Disney and ceased to be involved in the production of Star Wars films, fans have wondered what Star Wars creator George Lucas thinks of the new films made without him.  While Lucas's relationship with Star Wars has been rocky at times since 2013, apparently the maker is especially pleased with the latest film, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, from writer director Rian Johnson. A spokesperson for Lucas revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that Lucas had complimented Johnson on the film during a recent phone conversation and said that The Last Jedi was "beautifully made."

Back in 2015, Lucasfilm president and long time friend of Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy passed along his reaction to The Force Awakens, saying that he had, "really liked it."  Lucas's representatives stated in 2016 that he "loved" the first stand alone film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

I find Lucas' comment about the film being beautifully made interesting.  It suggests to me that he may like The Last Jedi better than The Force Awakens and Rogue One, both of which he said he likes but didn't say anything more about.  The praise for Johnson's film has already been high, and a stamp of approval from the maker may just be the cherry on top.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15th.  The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and stars Daisy Ridley as Rey, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico, Laura Dern as Amilyn Holdo, Benicio Del Toro as DJ, and Lupita Nyong'o as Maz Kanata.

  1. Oh I get it Lucas must be being sarcastic, cus there is no way in Hell he thinks TLJ is beautifully made. Worst movie in the franchise by miles.

  2. You should know that "Beautifully made" in the movie industry is as snarly as "Interesting" can be used in the English Language.

Did you like my book ? Well it was interesting....

I see a lot of Disney damage control happening online now it has become painfully clear that many Star Wars Fans did not like the movie overly much. From troll accusations at the Rotten Tomatoes site to other sophism used to make sure most of the non-discerning public will think the movie is actually good.
