Nina Gold is one of the most respected casting directors in the film industry, with her credits including Game of Thrones, The Martian, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.  One of her most successful finds was casting Daisy Ridley as Rey in The Force AwakensGold was recently interviewed by Harper's Bazaar and she recalled the process for auditioning Ridley and told a funny story about the time Ridley came to her audition with a Princess Leia inspired hair style.

Gold told Harper's Bazaar,

"It was such a massive responsibility to cast Star Wars and I'm really proud we found such a diverse, multi-cultural cast. I remember when Daisy first walked through the door. She'd taken the precaution of wearing her hair in two buns on either side of her head like Princess Leia. We fell in love with her straight away.

We'd seen hundreds of thousands of people, but she was totally perfect, and we couldn't get her out of our heads. It was her energy, she just had something. We then realised that we'd auditioned her on the feisty parts, but could she do the deep, troubled emotions? We asked her to perform the moment when Kylo Ren is trying to get the thoughts out of her mind and she had me crying my eyes out. It was the perfect fit."

The audition Gold is describing can actually be seen in the Secrets of The Force Awakens documentary from the blu-ray release of The Force Awakens.  You can check it out for yourself below,

Also, how cool is it that Daisy Ridley showed up to her Star Wars audition with Princess Leia hair?
