By Ciaran Duggan,

Erik Bauersfield, who was the voice of Admiral Ackbar and Jabba the Hutt's aide Bib Fortuna in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, was born on this day in 1922.

The American voice actor took just one hour to record Ackbar's lines and thirty minutes for Fortuna's.

The 93-year-old went on to reprise his role as the Mon Calamria Admiral in Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, the TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and in the computer game Star Wars: X-Wing.

In 2011 the voice actor said: "The fans who write to me say they'll never forget 'It's a trap!' I don't even remember how I said it. It's not that I don't like it or don't respect it. I just don't have the time to be a fan and see it 10 or 20 times."

The voice actor also read for the part of Yoda  but lost the role to Frank Oz, who went on to voice the Jedi master in five of the seven Star Wars films.

Erik Bauserfield sadly passed away at his home in Berkley, California, on April 3, 2016.
