Mark Hamill, the man who brought Luke Skywalker to life on the silver screen, presented the "In Memoriam" segment of the Tony Awards (which included his Star Wars co-star Carrie Fisher, who passed away late last year). Prior to the awards show, Variety caught up with Hamill on the red carpet and spoke to him about a variety of topics including the passing of Adam West, the last time he presented at the Tonys, and (of course) Star Wars.
Hamill clarified his comments about "fundamentally disagreeing" with director Rian Johnson about the direction he would take Luke in The Last Jedi. He explained, "It was inartfully phrased. What I was was surprised at how he saw Luke. And it took me a while to get around to his way of thinking. But once I was there, it was a thrilling experience. I hope it will be for the audience too."
