By Ciaran Duggan,
The first newspaper adverts for Star Wars: A New Hope were released around the world on this day back in 1977.
Star Wars: A New Hope was released in cinemas on May 25, 1977 - just ten days after these newspaper advertisements were first released.
In attempting to locate an image of a copy from today there was a copy of an old Star Wars advert from June 1977 which featured film critic reviews from Time Magazine and Newsweek Magazine.
Time Magazine named Star Wars "the best movie of the year..." |
The ad (above) is quite small and located in the middle of the newspaper, whereas the one below fills the page and embeds the design of the original film poster into the paper.

The advert also lists the name of the cast and crew from A New Hope and a different Star Wars logo to what fans are more used to with from the opening crawl of the Saga movies.
With the 40th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope nearing what memories do you have in the lead up to the cinematic release? What inspired you to watch the movie in the first place?
