By Ciaran Duggan,

Marvel's 'Star Wars #1' was shipped to retailers on this day in 1977.

The then unknown comic book series was released two months prior to the release of Star Wars: A New Hope.

The first issue was written by Roy Thomas and this edition would be published a month later on April 12, 1977.

The Marvel 'Star Wars' series would go on to publish 107 issues, which ran from 1977 to 1986. These are still available to purchase on Marvel's website.
