While our focus here and now is very much on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, a new rumor has popped up that pertains to the future standalone Anthology centered on young Han Solo. It was recently announced at Star Wars Celebration Europe that Alden Ehrenreich has been cast as the lovable scoundrel, but now we have a clue regarding more casting that is happening for the film.
The Wrap is currently reporting that casting is underway for a young Lando Calrissian that will appear in the Han Solo film. The role was originated by the legendary Billy Dee Williams in 1980's The Empire Strikes Back and the actor continued play Lando in many different instances, including some episodes of Star Wars Rebels. With Billy Dee getting up in age, a new actor is needed to bring the old smoothie to life prior to his appearance in the Original Trilogy. The Wrap reports:
"The Cloud City cassanova was originally played by Billy Dee Williams, and the current code name in casting circles for young Lando is “Chance” — perhaps a reference to the character’s appreciation of cards and dice."
Lando and Han's history is something that has been rooted in the Star Wars lore since the two first met on screen("Hey, you lost her to me. Fair and square."). I think the story of how Han won the Falcon from Lando in a game of Sabacc would be far too tantalizing for the filmmakers to not put it in the film. Lando may just have a cameo in such a scene, or he could be an integral part of the plot. Nevertheless, this is all just rumors and speculation until officially confirmed by Lucasfilm.
It's also worth noting that co-director Chris Miller tweeted a photo of himself and his partner Phil Lord on board the Millennium Falcon. Production on the Hanthology film is expected to begin in January 2017 with the a release on May 25th, 2018!
