One of the most discussed sequences in Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the vision Rey has after touching Luke's old lightsaber in the basement of Maz Kanata's castle. The scene, often referred to as "the force-back", has had fans scratching their heads to it's true meaning. Is it a vision of the past? The future? Could it be purely symbolic? While we'll hopefully get answers to those questions in Episodes VIII and IX, it turns out more to there was originally more to the sequence than we saw on screen. Speaking with University of California Television, The Force Awakens editor Maryann Brandon spoke about what was cut.
Brandon said,
“She went into this room and then it became the room in Cloud City, which you can still kind of see because we still kept that idea, but then she used to walk down the hall and she saw Darth Vader and Luke fighting. And she saw Darth Vader cut Luke’s hand off. Then she turned around and saw Snoke, or some version of Snoke, vague version of him and a little boy. So all those images we had, they just didn’t have a logic that satisfied anyone enough.”

The Vader part is something that has appeared in several tie in books, so it's not a huge surprise. The Snoke part, however, is new. It seems safe to assume the boy Brandon says is with Snoke is a young Kylo Ren/Ben Solo. This version sounds like it implied that Kylo fell when he was even younger. We know from the novel Star Wars: Bloodline that Kylo doesn't fall until he's already a young adult, so this image would not have worked literally in the film. However, I believe, this image could have worked symbolically, suggesting he was doomed to the dark side from early in his life.
