After releasing the first teaser trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story yesterday, Lucasfilm revealed today the design for the Rogue One packaging that will be seen on all Star Wars merchandise beginning in the fall. The black armored stormtrooper seen in the trailer is featured prominently on the packaging, as are the new designs for the Imperial AT-ATs and some classic TIE fighters. Lucasfilm made the announcement on Instagram earlier today, check it out below,
It is interesting to see the Empire front an center on the packaging when the focus of the film is the Rebellion. That being said, Star Wars packaging does usually feature the villains (Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Kylo Ren, etc.), so having a stormtrooper on the box really isn't that much of a surprise. Regardless, it looks pretty cool and conveys the might of the Empire that our new heroes will be going up against this December.
