It was a big night for Rey actress (and birthday girl) Daisy Ridley last night at the MTV Movie Awards, where she picked up the award for Breakthrough Performance for her role in The Force Awakens (which also won for Movie of the Year).  At the awards ceremony, she chatted with MTV's Josh Horowitz about Star Wars Episode VIII (which she is currently filming) and about the trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which came out last week (specifically, what she thinks of the "Jyn is Rey's mom" theory).

About the theory that Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) is Rey's mother, Ridley said, "I’m not being funny you guys, but just because she’s white and got brown hair… it doesn’t mean she’s my mom."

She also explained why she doesn't think it's a big deal who Rey's parents are, saying, "I think the amazing thing about [Episode VII] is that Finn and Rey don’t come from anywhere, and they find a place.  So to me, it’s funny that people think it’s so important because I don’t really think it is."

When asked if Rey would become a Jedi in Episode VIII, which she described as being "darker" than The Force Awakens, Ridley said, "I don’t know if I am a Jedi… I don’t think I am.  We’ve had this debate as to whether Leia is because she uses her Force powers.  Just because she’s not like, oh I’m going on an adventure like Luke doesn’t make her any less Forceful"
