Adam Driver Talks Life After 'The Force Awakens', Gives a Brief Update on 'Episode VIII'

Adam Driver was taking part in a Q&A, hosted by Entertainment Weekly, following his latest film Midnight Special and, of course, the topic of Star Wars came up.  Driver is set to return as Kylo Ren/Ben Solo in Star Wars Episode VIII, and he gave a quick update on how filming is going.  He said, "They’re still at war. It’s still Star Wars. They’re not at peace."

He went on to elaborate a little bit, when discussing the differences between The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams and Episode VIII director Rian Johnson.  Driver stated,
“Their temperaments are different. I feel like there was so many moving pieces in the first one – just trying to solve it and set the vocabulary for what it was. There’s a lot of that anxiety is gone, because people have developed a language. I think it’s more of a testament to Rian coming into something very established and making it [his own]. I can’t wait to get on set, just because he’s so unassuming and intelligent and approachable. The script they’ve come up with is really great.”

It sounds as if Driver has not yet started filming Episode VIII.  Interestingly enough, Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke) also recently said that he had not yet started filming on Episode VIII either (coincidence?) Production began on Episode VIII over a month a go, so based on this it sounds like the filming that's been taking place so far is focused on the good guys (well, mostly).

When asked if the success of The Force Awakens had changed him, Driver said,
“I didn’t turn into a new person. Nothing happened to me. But a lot of people saw it, and that was good. I guess my Christmas is kind of easier now – the toys and things for family. Kids is a big thing: I feel like before parents kept me away from their kids; now it’s like, go get a picture.”
