Entertainment Weekly has released a new gallery of images from Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, along with new details about the film. We've picked some of our favorites to feature below,
About Rey's speeder production designer Darren Gilford says,
“It’s a beat up tractor that’s a hand-me-down or scavenged item. It was meant to look like a piece of farm equipment, something that’s not going real fast compared to what a sports car would do. But it has high-end torque like a tractor that needs to haul a trailer.”
About her character Rey's backstory, Daisy Ridley tells EW,
“She’s been alone for a long time. When something occurs when you’re 5, you know what went on but you don’t understand the reasoning. She's hopeful for what lies ahead, whether that involves the past or not. Hope makes people good, a lot of the time. You hope for a brighter future, and resentment is outweighed.”
This image reveals/confirms two new things about the final confrontation. One, Rey is definitely involved. And two, EW revealed Finn is not trained with a lightsaber. "Obviously that makes things a bit more tricky for Finn," Boyega says. "That's genuine fear."
An early meeting between Finn and Poe
Finn and Poe (and BB-8) reunited at the Resistance base.

Via EW,
“I wish I could say to you, 'Oh, but of course, the entire thing was designed specifically for me,'” says Gwendoline Christie. “If only that were true — if only!” It turns out, Captain Phasma was tailored just for her. The chrome-plated trooper originated as a design for Kylo Ren, but then J.J. Abrams was inspired to create a new character. “I just thought it would be really cool if we could find someone to play the part who was female, and I’m a fan of Game of Thrones; Gwendoline is in that show, [The Force Awakens casting director] Nina Gold casts it, she knew Gwendoline, obviously," he says. "We were very lucky to get to have her in the movie. She’s not in many scenes, but her presence is powerfully felt when she’s there.”
Daisy Ridley commented on the fan speculation that Rey's staff once belonged to the Sith Lord Darth Plagueis, saying,
"I mean everyone is praying that it’s Darth Plagueis’s staff. But... it’s just a staff. She’s a young woman in a galaxy by herself. It’s not primarily a weapon, it’s useful as well. It does all sorts of things roamin’ around Jakku. She uses it to defend herself. That’s really as far as it goes, unfortunately."
John Boyega (Finn) also commented on the fact that we are now seeing people of color and women as the heroes in Star Wars. He told EW,
"They’re not talking about race the way we grown folks are. They’re not talking about how much melanin is in someone’s skin. That should teach us something. We’ve been having a continuous struggle with idiots, and now we should just force them to understand — this is the new world. There are loads of people of different shades and backgrounds. Get used to it.”

Too many spoilers!!!
ReplyDeleteI want Finn's/Poe's jacket! Looks way to cool!
ReplyDeleteAll this spoiler nonsense is a load of shite... until somebody rings you up and reads the script word for word, so that you know the story from end to end, then that's a spoiler... but photographs, stills, in a vacuum with no context? That's not a spoiler its just a photograph -_- People really need to take their heads out of their asses -_-
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more with Joe. There is not a single spoiler in the bunch. There has been 5 minutes of footage released. All of it out of context and most without dialog. I suppose seeing the name of the movie spoils it too. These same people are the ones that wouldn't stop begging for the trailer and now that is out now it is "There is too much stuff". No one is ever happy.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't like spoilers, then don't read them.
ReplyDeleteGetting real tired of the "we now have women and black people as hero's" talk from the actors and creative minds behind this film!
ReplyDeleteErr...because we never had them in other star wars films!... please stop pushing this crap on us!
Why does colour have to get brought into things I don't think that many people bitched about Finn been a black guy so wish people stop making Star Wars into a race issue Personally I think in a galaxy where guys that look like teddy bears walrus n squids are the norm a human would be just that a human
ReplyDeleteSo Mace Windu or Lando Calrissian werent heroes... wtf.. It wasnt about the main characters but about every single character thats in those movies that made such an impression on me and what made me a huge fan of the serie!!!!
