Rumor: Minor Details About Rey's Backstory in 'The Force Awakens'

With just 80 days left until Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens hits theaters, mystery and intrigue continue to surround the character of Rey (played by Daisy Ridley in the film).  Ever since Ridley appeared seated between Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher in the very first cast photo, rumors and speculation about who she may be related to have run rampant.  Our friends over at MakingStarWars.net have heard some interesting information about her backstory.  This information is vague at best, and doesn't confirm any of the rumors or speculation about her lineage, but is still interesting.  As usual, there is a chance this may not be true so if you don't want to know anything about The Force Awakens stop reading now.  This is your SPOILER ALERT!

According to MSW,
  • “Rey” is a pseudonym used by the hero in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
  • “Rey” was dropped off on Jakku by her parents.
  • “Rey” doesn’t leave Jakku because she’s waiting for her parents to return. Should she leave, they may never find her.
  • Her life on Jakku, living inside an AT-AT-turned-home makes Luke’s life on Tatooine look suburban and luxurious.
As you can see this doesn't confirm any of the rumors about her parentage and could work with either her being related to a legacy character (or two) or her being a completely new character.  As for Rey being a pseudonym, this has been speculated and rumor a lot in the past, with many pointing to the name Kira being her real name (especially after it was spotted on set last year).  It would be an interesting twist (and one that feels very Star Wars to me) if  Han and Leia are Rey's parents and she doesn't want to leave Jakku because she fears her parents won't be able to find her parents are, because almost immediately after leaving Jakku she meets Han, and Leia not too long after that.
As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.

I would still prefer her to be Luke's daughter rather than Han's. If leia is the queen/leader of the resistance, it seems odd to "protect" her daughter by hiding her. Seems like she would be much safer with the New Republic. If its Luke's daughter it makes a little more sense, Luke is off his rocker or hiding in a dark cave and would not want his daughter to be with him for fear of the dark side. The mother would be dead or lost. Making her a solo just seems a little predictable, but if they go that route I'm still stoked for this movie.

She must be Solo-Skywalker twin of "Kylo"

This is driving me frikken crazy actually. I hope she's Luke's daughter. I couldn't really see both Han and Leia abandoning their child. Luke has more reason to do so. Maybe she was named Kira, but goes by Rey. It's still possible Kylo Ren is a Solo.

I am thinking this is Jaina and her twin brother, Jaycen, is Kylo Ren. Both children of Han and Leia.

"because she fears her parents won't be able to find her parents are"

Whoever she belongs to... Padme has to be her grandmother. A striking resemblance.

Jaina and Jacen don't exist anymore. I don't know why this is so hard to accept. Along with the concept that every freaking character does not have to be related to people we already know....

She is Luke and Leia's daughter. They went a little further than we knew before they found out. Yeesh!

My guess is that she's Han & Leia's daughter and Kylo Ren is Luke's long lost son, after he had a one night drunken fling with a Dathomir witch. Discuss.

Take "Kylo Ren" and literally remove "R,e,y" from it and Kylo Ren now spells "KLON" (as in klone ... as in clone). Just saying.

Obi wan hid luke and leia. Luke knew hiding ones kid on a desert planet is doable. So he hid Rey on Jakku hoping to keep her hid From Kylo. Older cousin young impressionable female cousin. Must hide. Luke knew he must hide from Kylo so that one day when Rey was ready he could train her.Like Yoda and Kenobi hid from Vader and the emperor.Luke isn't young and knew as it was with Kenobi and his powers being weak as an old man that he can't face Ren and Snoke alone. But a young girl who's force hasnt awaken yet would be no help. Luke had no sense if the force till he began his training with the training remote.
