Report: 'The Force Awakens' To Premiere At 7pm On December 17th At Certain U.S. Theaters

By: Benjamin Hart

Anticipation is rising quickly as we approach the release of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens on December 18th. Earlier this week we heard a rumor that tickets for the film will go on sale on October 19th, which has left many fans planning and speculating about the first showing of Episode VII in theaters. Most of us have assumed up until now that we will be seeing The Force Awakens at 12:01am on December 18th, but a new report appears to contradict that line of thought.

/Film is reporting that at least one theater has confirmed that the first screening of The Force Awakens will be happening at 7:00pm the preceding day, December 17th. Jerry Salcedo on Twitter tweeted at Esquire IMAX Theatre in Sacremento, California asking about the release date, to which they responded:

And we must emphasize that this does not mean all theaters will be following suit with this plan. This early premiere could be exclusive just to this type of theater, or select others. We won't know anything until tickets go on sale officially.

  1. Ever since Aurora Colorado theaters have dropped off premier showings at midnight so it appears that whatever day the movie opens on it will most likely show in the 7 to 10 p.m. time slot.

  3. *raises eyebrow* Even where I live, theaters stopped doing midnight showings of films after the theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado. Those showings have been replaced by showings between seven and ten p.m.
